Amul to Invest ₹700 Crore in Howrah Mega Dairy Plant, Set to House World’s Largest Curd Manufacturing Facility

Howrah, West Bengal: In a major boost to West Bengal’s food processing sector, the foundation stone has been laid for Amul India’s mega integrated dairy plant and the world’s largest curd manufacturing facility at the Sankrail Food Park in Howrah. The landmark project is expected to strengthen the state's dairy ecosystem, generate employment, and support thousands of milk producers across the region.

Amul will invest approximately ₹700 crore in the state-of-the-art facility, which will be developed across 15 acres of land. Once operational, the plant will have the capacity to process up to 15 lakh litres of milk per day, making it one of the largest dairy processing units in Eastern India.

A key highlight of the project is its planned production capacity of 10 lakh kilograms per day of curd, mishti doi, and other value-added dairy products. The facility is expected to become the largest curd manufacturing plant in the world, catering to rising demand across India and potentially international markets.

The project is expected to create significant direct and indirect employment opportunities while strengthening the dairy value chain in West Bengal. Local dairy farmers will benefit from improved procurement networks, stable demand for milk, and enhanced market access.

Industry experts believe the investment will help position West Bengal as a major dairy processing and food manufacturing hub. The facility is also expected to boost ancillary industries, including packaging, logistics, cold-chain infrastructure, and food distribution networks.

The new dairy complex aligns with India's broader efforts to expand food processing capacity, reduce post-harvest losses, and increase the production of value-added agricultural products. With growing consumer demand for dairy products such as curd, yogurt, flavored milk, and traditional sweets, the investment is expected to play a key role in meeting future market requirements.

Once completed, the Sankrail facility will significantly enhance Amul’s production capabilities in Eastern India while contributing to regional economic growth and rural development.
