India To Build World's Highest Cricket Stadium In Ladakh
India is set to build what is expected to be the world's highest cricket stadium in Ladakh, marking a major milestone in the country's sports infrastructure. The proposed venue will be located at Thiksey near Leh, at an altitude of approximately 3,600 metres (11,800 feet) above sea level, surpassing all existing high-altitude cricket stadiums.
The ambitious project is estimated to cost around ₹100 crore, with the Ladakh administration already initiating the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR). Once completed, the stadium is expected to provide a world-class venue for domestic and international cricket while showcasing India's engineering capabilities in extreme Himalayan conditions.
The high-altitude stadium is expected to offer a unique playing experience due to Ladakh's thin air and breathtaking mountain landscape. Besides hosting cricket matches, the venue could become a major destination for sports tourism, attracting players, fans, and visitors from across the globe.
The project is also aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure in the Union Territory by creating better opportunities for local athletes. It follows the recent development of India's highest AstroTurf football ground in Leh, reinforcing Ladakh's emergence as a hub for high-altitude sports and training.
Once completed, the stadium is expected to become an iconic sporting landmark, boosting tourism, regional development, and grassroots cricket in the Himalayan region. It will further enhance India's growing portfolio of world-class sports infrastructure while placing Ladakh on the global cricket map.
