Reliance Foundation Gets Approval To Build 410-acre World-class University Near Mumbai
The Reliance Foundation has received approval from the Government of Maharashtra to establish a State Private University, paving the way for a 410-acre world-class campus at Dronagiri near Mumbai. The announcement was made by Nita Ambani during the Reliance Industries AGM 2026.
The permanent campus will feature seven specialised schools offering undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral programmes across disciplines including engineering, management, law, medicine, architecture, humanities, and education. A strong focus will be placed on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.
Designed as a global knowledge hub, the university will include a state-of-the-art research park, an innovation and incubation centre, a sports district, a medical city, residential facilities, and a vibrant arts district with amphitheatres and performance spaces. The project aims to foster cutting-edge research, entrepreneurship, and global academic excellence.
An interim campus at Ulwe is already operational with modern academic, residential, and sports infrastructure, while construction of the permanent Dronagiri campus will begin in phases. The university is expected to attract leading faculty, researchers, and students from India and abroad.
The ambitious project is expected to strengthen Maharashtra's higher education ecosystem and position the Mumbai region as a leading global destination for innovation, research, and advanced learning. It also marks one of the largest private higher education developments in India, supporting the country's vision of building globally ranked universities.
