India Launches UPI In Greece 10th Country To Join India's Global UPI Network

India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has officially gone live in Greece, making it the 10th country to adopt India's world-leading digital payment system. The launch, announced during Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal's visit to Athens, marks another major milestone in the global expansion of India's Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The service has been introduced through a partnership between NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and Eurobank, enabling fast, secure, and seamless cross-border digital payments.

With UPI now operational in Greece, Indian tourists, business travelers, and the Indian diaspora can make instant digital payments at participating merchants using familiar UPI-enabled apps without relying heavily on cash or international credit cards. The integration is expected to significantly reduce transaction costs while making overseas payments more convenient and efficient.

Greece becomes the 10th country where UPI services are available, joining Singapore, United Arab Emirates, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia. The rapid international expansion highlights the growing global confidence in India's fintech ecosystem and reinforces UPI's position as one of the world's leading real-time payment platforms.

The rollout also strengthens economic and financial ties between India and Greece. During his visit, Piyush Goyal held discussions with Eurobank leadership to promote greater investment, infrastructure collaboration, and manufacturing partnerships between the two nations. Officials emphasized that India's technology-driven payment solutions are creating value beyond borders while supporting stronger bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

As UPI continues its global expansion, India is positioning its homegrown payment system as a trusted international digital payments network. The addition of Greece further demonstrates India's ambition to simplify cross-border transactions, enhance financial connectivity, and establish UPI as a global standard for secure, instant, and low-cost digital payments.
