Adani Group, Abu Dhabi's Ihc To Invest $11.5 Billion In Aluminium Plant In Odisha: Report
Adani Group and Abu Dhabi-based International Holding Company (IHC) have signed an agreement to jointly invest $11.5 billion (around ₹1.08 lakh crore) in a greenfield integrated aluminium project in Odisha. The investment is expected to be one of the largest foreign investments ever made in India's metals sector.
The proposed project will include an alumina refinery, aluminium smelter, captive power plant, and downstream aluminium manufacturing park. Once operational, it is expected to produce 4 million tonnes of alumina, 2 million tonnes of aluminium, and 1 million tonnes of downstream aluminium products annually.
The venture is expected to significantly strengthen India's aluminium manufacturing capacity while supporting rising demand from infrastructure, renewable energy, transportation, and industrial sectors. It also marks Adani Group's entry into aluminium manufacturing, following the commissioning of its copper smelter in Gujarat.
The project is projected to generate approximately 53,500 jobs, including 35,000 during construction and 18,500 permanent operational jobs, providing a major boost to Odisha's industrial ecosystem and employment opportunities.
With Odisha already accounting for over half of India's aluminium production due to its rich bauxite reserves, the mega project is expected to reinforce the state's position as the country's leading aluminium hub while strengthening India's long-term manufacturing and critical minerals strategy.
