Tata Group's Biggest Semiconductor Bet Is Taking Shape In Assam

Tata Group is making one of its largest technology investments in India with a ₹27,000 crore semiconductor assembly and testing plant in Jagiroad, Assam. The facility is expected to begin commercial production in November 2026, marking a major milestone for India's semiconductor mission.

The facility will manufacture advanced avionics and cockpit interface electronics for global aerospace and defence programmes. Developed as a customized Built-to-Suit (BTS) facility, it is located within the 277-acre GMR Aerospace & Industrial Park, strengthening Hyderabad's aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.

Tata Group selected Assam because of its strong engineering talent, growing semiconductor and defence sector, and world-class industrial infrastructure. The company expects the new facility to enhance its global production capabilities while supporting exports and high-reliability electronics manufacturing.

The investment is expected to support the 'Make in India' initiative by promoting local manufacturing, strengthening domestic supply chains, and encouraging greater participation of Indian companies in the global semiconductor value chain.

With Tata Group's entry, Assam continues to attract global semiconductor investments, reinforcing the state's position as one of India's fastest-growing hubs for advanced manufacturing, aviation, and defence technologies.
