Kolkata Secures 291 Crore For Schneider Electric Manufacturing Expansion
Kolkata has secured a major industrial investment as Schneider Electric Infrastructure has approved an enhanced capital expenditure of ₹291.2 crore to expand its Kolkata Medium Voltage Components (KMVC) manufacturing facility. The investment strengthens West Bengal's position as a key manufacturing hub for advanced electrical equipment and supports India's growing industrial and energy infrastructure.
The revised investment includes an increase in funding for the Medium Voltage Vacuum Interrupter expansion project from ₹138 crore to ₹184 crore, while investment for the Mechanism Assembly Line has been raised from ₹90.6 crore to ₹107.2 crore. Together, these revisions take the total project outlay to ₹291.2 crore.
The expansion will significantly boost manufacturing capacity, increasing annual production of medium-voltage vacuum interrupters from the earlier planned 1.8 lakh units to 2.5 lakh units. The upgraded facility will also manufacture medium-voltage vacuum circuit breaker assemblies, catering to both domestic demand and export markets.
The enhanced facility is expected to become operational by Q1 of FY2028-29, with the project targeted for completion by June 2028. The investment will be financed through a combination of internal accruals and other financing sources, reflecting Schneider Electric's long-term commitment to manufacturing localization and business expansion in India.
