Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Crosses 23.6 Crore Passengers In FY 2025-26

Kolkata Metro Rail has achieved a significant milestone by carrying 23.6 crore passengers during FY 2025-26, reflecting the city's growing dependence on rapid transit and the expanding metro network. The record ridership highlights the increasing popularity of metro services as a fast, reliable, and sustainable mode of urban transportation.

The Blue Line (Dakshineswar–Kavi Subhash/Shahid Khudiram) remained the busiest corridor, transporting nearly 17.9 crore passengers with an average daily ridership of around 5 lakh commuters. Meanwhile, the fully connected Green Line (Howrah Maidan–Sector V) emerged as the second-busiest route, attracting approximately 5.2 crore passengers and around 1.5 lakh daily riders.

Newer corridors also continued to build momentum. The Purple Line (Joka–Majerhat) recorded around 15.3 lakh passengers, while the Yellow Line (Noapara–Jai Hind Airport corridor) carried approximately 13.6 lakh passengers after opening in 2025. The Orange Line is expected to witness stronger growth as additional sections become operational and connectivity improves.

The metro's operational efficiency also improved during the financial year, with its operating ratio improving from 221% to 190%, indicating better financial performance driven by rising ridership and expanding services. Authorities expect further improvements as passenger numbers continue to grow across the network.
