Jupiter Wagons Limited is setting up a new manufacturing plant in Hooghly, West Bengal
Jupiter Wagons Limited has announced plans to establish a new passenger coach manufacturing plant in Hooghly district, West Bengal, marking a significant expansion of the state's railway manufacturing ecosystem. The upcoming facility will manufacture Vande Bharat, Metro, and other modern passenger coaches, supporting India's rapidly growing rail infrastructure.
The Hooghly unit will become West Bengal's second railway rolling stock manufacturing facility, following the operational plant at Uttarpara. The investment is expected to strengthen the state's position as an important hub for advanced railway manufacturing while enhancing domestic production capabilities.
The project aligns with the Government of India's Make in India initiative and the increasing demand for high-speed and urban rail systems. With Vande Bharat trains and metro networks expanding across the country, the new plant is expected to play a key role in meeting future rolling stock requirements.
The manufacturing facility is also expected to generate employment opportunities, promote ancillary industries, and boost industrial development in Hooghly. Its strategic location in West Bengal will strengthen regional supply chains and support the state's long-term manufacturing growth.
The announcement further reinforces Jupiter Wagons' expansion into the passenger rail segment, complementing its existing expertise in freight wagons, mobility solutions, and railway components. The new facility is expected to contribute significantly to India's railway modernization and self-reliance in passenger coach manufacturing.
