Pepsico Strengthens Long-term Commitment To India

Mumbai-ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Reaches 80% Completion

India's first high-speed rail corridor, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, has achieved a major milestone with 80% of the construction now complete, according to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The project is progressing rapidly and is expected to transform intercity travel with world-class high-speed rail connectivity.

The first operational section between Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat is scheduled to open in 2027, marking the beginning of commercial bullet train services in India. The remaining sections—including Vapi–Surat, Vapi–Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad–Thane, and Thane–Mumbai—will be commissioned in phases.

Spanning 508 kilometres, the corridor will connect Mumbai and Ahmedabad with trains capable of operating at speeds of up to 320 km/h. Once fully operational, the journey between the two cities is expected to be reduced to just over two hours, significantly improving regional connectivity and economic integration.

The project also includes several engineering milestones, such as India's first undersea rail tunnel, advanced Japanese Shinkansen technology, and modern high-speed stations. It is one of the country's largest transportation infrastructure projects and represents a major leap in railway modernization.

With construction advancing steadily, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train is set to usher India into the high-speed rail era. The project is expected to boost economic growth, improve passenger mobility, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the country's world-class transport infrastructure.
