India, Indonesia To Develop Sabang Port Strengthening Maritime Partnership

Delhi government has launched an ambitious plan to plant more than 1 crore native saplings over the next four years to improve air quality

The Delhi government has unveiled an ambitious afforestation initiative to plant more than 1 crore native saplings across the national capital over the next four years, aiming to improve air quality, expand green cover, and strengthen the city's climate resilience. The large-scale plantation drive will focus on indigenous tree species that are better suited to the local ecosystem and require less maintenance.

The campaign will be implemented in collaboration with multiple government departments, civic agencies, educational institutions, and local communities. Plantation activities will be carried out in parks, forest areas, roadsides, schools, public spaces, and other available land to maximise green coverage across Delhi.

The initiative is expected to enhance carbon sequestration, reduce dust pollution, improve biodiversity, and mitigate the urban heat island effect. Along with plantation, the government plans to ensure regular monitoring and maintenance to improve the survival rate of newly planted saplings.

The plantation drive forms a key part of Delhi's long-term environmental strategy to combat air pollution, promote sustainable urban development, and create a healthier living environment for millions of residents while contributing to India's broader climate and green infrastructure goals.
