India is fencing the 1,610-km India-Myanmar border to strengthen border security
The Government of India is constructing a 1,610-km border fence along the India–Myanmar international border to strengthen national security, curb illegal infiltration, and prevent cross-border smuggling and insurgent activities. The ambitious project will span the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram, reinforcing surveillance along one of India's most challenging frontiers.
The fencing project is being executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), with work progressing in multiple sectors despite difficult mountainous terrain. The initiative is accompanied by the construction of border roads and enhanced security infrastructure to improve connectivity and facilitate faster deployment of security forces.
The project forms part of India's broader strategy to modernize border management and strengthen internal security. Once completed, the fence is expected to significantly enhance surveillance capabilities, reduce unauthorized cross-border movement, and improve overall security along India's eastern frontier.
