Kolkata Metro's TBM 'Durga' Achieves Breakthrough at Victoria Station
Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) 'Durga' has successfully achieved a major breakthrough at Victoria Station, completing tunnel excavation between Khiddirpore and Victoria on the Purple Line (Joka–Eden Gardens Metro Corridor) in Kolkata. The milestone marks significant progress in the construction of the city's underground metro network.
The breakthrough completes one of the key underground tunnel sections of the Joka–Esplanade (Purple Line) project, which is being developed to improve connectivity between south and central Kolkata. Engineers and construction teams executed the tunnelling work through dense urban areas while ensuring minimal disruption to existing infrastructure.
With the tunnelling between Khiddirpore and Victoria now complete, construction activities will shift towards track laying, station development, and installation of signalling and other railway systems. The achievement brings the Purple Line a step closer to enhancing public transport and easing traffic congestion across Kolkata.
